Remembered as a loving friend, a great student, and a kind and encouraging voice.
Nell McWilliams, 64 of Cumming died Sunday January 28th, 2024 at home of an apparent heart attack. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis B. and Bonnie J. Lovett McWilliams and brother, Glen McWilliams, all of Cumming.
Nell was born in Illinois on Friday September 25, 1959, but lived most of her life in Georgia. For many years she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cumming, with her family.
Nell loved horses at an early age. She won many ribbons and trophies for showing horses and barrel racing. She graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1976, where she was a freshman cheerleader, a majorette within the Flash of Crimson Band Program, an officer in 4-H, and a member of the Beta Club.
Nell attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. and then her love for flying led her to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where she graduated in 1979. Following her father’s career path, Nell became a commercial airline pilot as women entered the field. At the end of her career, she took early retirement from US Airways and returned to Cumming, where she enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Though she never had children of her own, Nell doted over the children of her family and extended family. She kept in touch with friends and family by sending cards or by telephone and friends said she never missed a birthday or anniversary.
Friends are planning a simple time of remembrance for the Spring at Lake Lanier.
