Born on July 2, 1934, in Greensburg, PA, Ella Irene graduated from Greensburg-Salem High School in 1952 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Westmoreland School of Nursing. A dedicated and compassionate nurse, she spent much of her career in industrial health at Westinghouse/Powerex, but her true passion was patient care—especially working in the pediatric department at Westmoreland Hospital. Even in retirement, she continued her calling by serving at St. Ann’s Nursing Home.
Beyond her profession, Ella Irene had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting ceramics, knitting, quilting, and playing the organ. She blended her love of caring for children and knitting through knitting hats for the Northside Pediatric Department. However, her greatest joy came from her family. She cherished time spent with loved ones, always expressing her affection through thoughtful gifts, delicious baked treats, and meaningful moments together. She maintained many lifelong friendships and remained deeply connected with those she loved until her final days.
Ella Irene’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be dearly missed but forever treasured by those who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas W. Fennell officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
