Ellen Carnes Tallant

Ellen Carnes Tallant, age 90, of Cumming passed away Saturday, March 7, 2, 2015. Ellen was born in Cumming and lived here all of her life. She was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church and was an avid reader. Ellen was a school teacher, retiring after 33 1/2 years. She was Principal of the old Coal Mountain School and also taught in several other schools in Forsyth County; then taught and retired from the Gwinnett County Schools. She loved learning as well as her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, flowers and birds. Ellen served two terms as Worthy Matron of Cumming Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and was also a member of the Silver City Chapter of the Order of Rebakah. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Carroll Tallant; her parents, Minor J. and Emily Cain Carnes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joel T. and Gussie Godfrey Tallant; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James O. and Mildred Tallant Lamb. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Athene and Earnest Pruitt; son, Jackson Carroll Tallant, all of Cumming; grandchildren, Clint Pruitt of Cumming, Chuck and Heather Pruitt of Canton, Trevor Tallant of Cumming, Joe and Jessie Tallant of Newnan; great grandchildren, Emma Pruitt, Ellie Pruitt, Bonnie and Caleb Tallant; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J. Harold and Carrie Tallant. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10th, at 2:00 p.m. at Coal Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Bennett, Rev. Ruel Martin and Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Coal Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Foundation.
