Emmett Allen Mills (Allen) was born on July 8th, 1959. He was the oldest son of Broughton and Mertie (Mills) Sims. He grew up in the Alpharetta, Georgia area with his older sister, Sheila, younger brother, Ray, and younger sister, Lisa. He spent his entire life in Georgia. He attended Milton High School where he shined as an avid enthusiast of track & field and cross country distance running.
He married Retha Davis and welcomed the opportunity to raise her son, Brandon Davis whom Allen affectionately called “his boy,” and her daughter Michelle Davis Page. He came to know and love their half sister, Anna Artz. Allen loved his family and had a strong faith in God. He had a passion for hunting and fishing and was a collector of guitars. He was quite proud of his guitar collection. His other prized possession was his Harley, which he enjoyed riding very much. His career of choice was a diesel mechanic.
Allen was giant in stature and in heart. He loved his family deeply. He loved his mother fiercely, and also made her top priority. He was always good for a laugh- especially with his Sling Blade impersonations. Every family meal he would ask, "are we having steak and lobster?" But we never once had steak and lobster! He loved holidays and any chance to see his family- especially his young great-nieces Shelby and Josie LeBel and Kai Jones. He also loved his five grandchildren, Taylor Durham, Jordan Burke, Emma Sanders, Caleb Sanders , and Nikoli Page. He was also a great granddad to Uriah Burke, Eden Burke, and Ledger Durham.
Allen will be so missed by everyone who knew and loved him- his family, co- workers, and friends. He was a funny, spirited, and loving man. He always had a cup of coffee in his hand and something sweet to say. His nieces, Jessica James and Stephanie LeBel, remember him as Hagrid from Harry Potter- a character larger than life. He was big and strong but a sweetheart. He was a joy to be around and a friendly face to hug. He was a warm and safe place to take solace.
He would have wanted everyone to love as big as he always did and treasure those around you.
“For where your treasure is, your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34
