Ernest Eugene Gene Guilliams II, 90, of Sandy Springs, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Mr. Guilliams was born on February 20, 1923, in Winterset, Iowa where he grew up working on a farm with his parents and sister. He served in both World War II and the Korean War as a Navy pilot where he flew the well-known Avenger Torpedo Bomber. After his service in World War II, Mr. Guilliams graduated from Drake University with a degree in Accounting and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. During his time at Drake University, he met his lovely wife, Imie. They were married in 1948 and celebrated over sixty-four years of marriage. Mr. Guilliams succeeded in the insurance industry where he worked for American Mutual Insurance for over thirty-three years as an insurance sales manager, specializing in business insurance. He rose in the firm to become the Southeast Regional Sales Manager. After his retirement from American Mutual Insurance, Mr. Guilliams worked for Pritchard & Jerden Insurance.

Mr. Guilliams was an avid golfer and spent much of his time at Cherokee Town and Country Club, where he was a member. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Mr. Guilliams enjoyed finding the perfect fishing spot and embarked on many fishing trips with his son, Skip. Mr. Guilliams and his wife also traveled all over the world where they ventured to many exotic places.

Mr. Guilliams was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Iva; sister Dorothy Don Carlos; and daughter Susan Guilliams McBride.

Mr. Guilliams is survived by his wife, Imie Guilliams, his son Ernest Eugene Skip Guilliams III, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The family would like to thank his beloved friend Candy Barnes for her loving care over the past three years. They would also like to thank the Journey Hospice for their support in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Emory Alzheimers Disease Research Center or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Interment of the Cremains will be June 14th, 2013 at 2:30 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery located in Canton, Georgia.

Byars Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation and interment will be held in June.
