At the remarkable age of 92, Eugene Edward Olszewski of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away in his sleep on June 3, 2017. The son of Michael and Genevieve Olszewski, Gene was born on February 18, 1925, in Maspeth in the borough of Queens in New York City. Blessedly on this past February 16, Gene celebrated his 70th Wedding Anniversary with his wife, Patricia. A Quartermaster in the US Navy, Gene had navigated LCT 646 on multiple landings on Omaha Easy Red Beach. Gene's family and friends are incredibly grateful for QM2 Olszewski's service. A few months after D-Day, whilst Gene was waiting for reassignment, Gene met the love his life, Patricia, at a dance hall in Pat's home town of Plymouth, England. Though separated until the end of 1946, their love for each other blossomed through a two year cascade of love letters. Gene worked for Western Electric for his whole career. Together with Pat, he made a home in Maspeth and then in South Huntington on Long Island. Four children followed, and grew up in a home of music, happiness, and love. Although Gene has left us, his love lives on in his family. Gene is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia; his children Lisa Mele (husband Rob Mele), Janis Lappin (husband Steve Lappin), and Alan Olszewski (wife Sue Olszewski). Gene was preceded in death in 1960 by his son, Michael. In addition, Gene is survived by five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
