Dr Frank M. du Mas passed away peacefully at his home in Smyrna on Sunday, September 22. He was surrounded by his loving family. One week prior to his death he celebrated his 101st birthday with cake, ice cream, and festivities. Dr du Mas was a retired college professor having received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Virginia while on both an athletic and academic scholarship. He was a record setting sprinter on the UVA track team as well as the boxing teams. He received his PhD in psychology from the University of Texas. He taught at several major universities throughout his career and was considered a leading pioneer in quantitative analysis of personality characteristics. He published numerous books, papers and articles within the scientific community. His entire life was dedicated to the constant pursuit of knowledge. He was an avid reader and an insatiable consumer of instruction manuals. Always asking, did you read the directions? He was a WWII veteran having served in the Army/Air Force as a psychologist attached to the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado caring for returning soldiers who were suffering from battle fatigue.
He and his wife Dorothy (deceased 2015) had 4 sons and one daughter and spent their lives seeking adventures through travel, camping in National Parks, trips abroad, and visiting friends and family. He is survived by his five children Don (Molly), Michael, Mark (Jenna), Doug (Cherry), Sue (Walt). He was a grandfather of 10 granddaughters and lovingly referred to as Gra. He also has 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in Stanwood, Washington on Saturday, September 28th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity in his name.
