Frederick Lee “Fred” Fishback of Cumming, GA passed away at home due to natural causes at the age of 89 on December 19, 2022. He was born in New Martinsburg, Ohio to Albert Lee Fishback and Helen Slaughter Fishback on November 25, 1933. Fred graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High Schooland then attended Kent State University where he was a cadet in ROTC and graduated with a Bachelorof Science in Chemistry. He joined the U.S. Navy and attended Officer Candidate School at Naval Station Newport, RI. His first duty station was NAS Cecil Field, FL where he worked at fleet aircraft unit’s administration. There he met his wife, Carrie Louise Dixon, and they married February 21, 1957. Fred was a Navy Reservist for 2 years while working as a chemist for B. F. Goodrich in Ohio. He reentered active duty and worked in finance and administration for fleet aircraft service squadrons at NAS Pt. Mugu, CA, and then earned his Electronics Engineering Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He continued his finance and administration duties at NAS Jacksonville, FLand at the Naval Air Propulsion Test Center in Trenton, NJ, where he also earned his Master of Business Administration from Rider College. His final duty assignment was administration for the Naval Experimental Diving Unit at the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory in Panama City Beach, FL, where he retired in 1977. He served as a Manager and Professor at the University of West Florida Small Business Development Center in Panama City, FL and later worked for U. S. Civil Service in Information Technology at the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory where he had a second retirement. He and his wife moved to Cumming, GA in 1995 to be closer to family. Fred retired a third time after working many years as Chief Financial Officer for Purchasing Alliance Solutions in Marietta, GA.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Helen Fishback. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Carrie Dixon Fishback, son Lee Fishback and grandchildren Richard, David and Sean, daughter Anita LaTourette, her husband Brett and grandchildren Miranda and Tristan, son Jeffrey Fishback and wife Lynn, son Kenneth Fishback and grandson Timothy, and great grandson Joshua. He is also survived by his brother Don Fishback and wife Brenda, his brother David Fishback and several nieces and nephews.

Fred was a peaceful man and was well liked by those who knew him. He enjoyed reading and workingoutdoors. He was a handyman who could take apart most anything and put it back together. He enjoyed sitting in his yard with his dog, Lady, and always liked to talk with his neighbors.

A Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, Committal Shelter, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30014 where he will receive Military Funeral Honors and Committal Service on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 9:00am. The ceremony will be outdoors, so dress in warmest clothes for freezing temperatures.
