Gary George Corn

Gary George Corn, age 71, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. He was a native resident of Forsyth County and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a devoted husband, father, and Christian with fellowship from First Christian Church and Cornerstone Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; George and Doris Corn; brother David Corn.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Corn; children including Bryan Corn and Jennifer Schleis, Linnea Corn, Bobby Corn and Laura Corn; grandchildren including Wilson Corn, Vera Corn, Shelby Corn, and Bryson Corn; along with extended relatives, nieces, and nephews.

Gary lived a life full of amazing stories with quick wit and humor that will continue on through his friends and family. He graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1964, earning the nickname Cobb. After enlisting in the US Navy, his recruiter picked him up at his house at 4:30 the morning of November 28, 1966, with The Beach Boys singing Good Vibrations on the radio. He served in the Vietnam War on the USS Yorktown, specializing as a helicopter mechanic. He assisted with three Apollo missions aboard the USS Hornet to recover astronauts from the Pacific Ocean, meeting President Nixon after Apollo 11 on July 24, 1969. Returning home, he finally convinced his wife, Gail Corn, to marry him on May 3, 1975, celebrating 42 years, and later selling his beloved 57 Chevy. Together, they raised three children and proud to have four grandchildren that called him Papa. Gary retired as a production planner from the Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space unit at St. Marys, Georgia, on the Naval Submarine Base at Kings Bay. He was known for his many passions that have since been passed on to his children such as photography, astronomy, electronics, computers, gardening, and music.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:30 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family will receive friends that morning at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia, from 10 am 12 pm with Rev. Joe Gaines.
