Gary William Gray, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, age 75, of Cumming,GA peacefully went to be with our Heavenly Father Wednesday, April 5, 2023 due to complications with cancer. Gary was born at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA on June 4, 1947. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Joseph William Gray and Waunita Shults Gray Ross, and his step-daughter Melanie Monteiro. Heleaves behind his beloved wife of 16 years, Lourdes; his daughter - Pam Johnston (Bryan); his son - Jeff Gray (Jennifer); his step-son – Elton Monteiro; his 9 grandchildren - Austyn Gilliam (Chandler), Payton Johnston, Grayson Johnston, Connor Gray, Cayden Johnston, Holdyn Johnston, Carson Gray, Rylan Johnston, and Chloe Gray, his great grandchild – Jackson Gilliam
Gary was a loving, kind, generous, welcoming man who never met a stranger and was always the life of the party! He will certainly be missed by his family and friends!! A rare native Atlantan and a high school graduate of Georgia Military Academy, Gary attended and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. Gary led a successful career of roughly 40 years at General Motors ending it in management as a Labor Relations Supervisor. He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast, and even did some drag racing in his early years. If he wasn’t sitting at his carving table working on multiple intricate carvings, you could typically find him on his boat cruising around Lake Lanier or with his toes in the sand listening to a broad range of music, typically starting off with Jimmy Buffett. But one of his favorite things to do was meet with his buddy George Sims, weekly, and solve the world’s problems. He truly loved his family and especially his grandchildren. They were the light of his world. Gary, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
Just know, there are people who bring light into the world, and you are one of them. Even though you are gone, your light will always remain, and we will hold you close in our hearts.
