Willie Eugene (Gene) Roper, age 76, of Cumming, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. He was of the Holiness Faith and a member of Lighthouse for Jesus Church. He was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. Gene played country music for 50 years and continued his love for music by playing gospel music for area nursing homes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ola Roper; twin sister, Willa Mae Webb.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Peggy Roper of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Paul Collum of Dawsonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Liz Roper of Woodstock, Ronnie and Diane Roper of Dallas; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Seldon Waters of Cumming; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Della and Roy Haynes of SC; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Anglin of Dahlonega, Alana (Dylan) Barrett of Suwanee; great grandchild, Jerry Paul Anglin; and a number of other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 9th at 4:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Gober and Rev. Nathan Hewatt officiating. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ingram Funeral Home to offset funeral expenses.
Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
