George Guy McDearmon, Jr.

Today we celebrate the life of a man, who in the presence of Jesus, is more alive right now than hes ever been. There is much to celebrate--more than these paragraphs can contain--because George Guy McDearmon Jr, in his 93 years, lived a full life. Full of courage, he served his country navigating a B-25 bomber in U.S. Marine Corps Squadron VMB 631 in the Pacific during World War II. He modeled integrity, uncommon wisdom and humble leadership at home and at work. Full of love, he selflessly served to the very end, his wife of over 72 years, his two children, seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren who are each indelibly impacted by his eternal legacy.

Born in Richmond, VA on November 29, 1924, George McDearmon grew into a simple man who found contagious joy in the basics of life: the welfare of his family, the fruits of his labor, and the outward demonstration of his deep inward faith. Following his exemplary service in World War II, George McDearmon leveraged his tireless work ethic and tradesman education to build a remarkable career as Draftsman, Boilermaker, Metal Fabrication Manager and eventually President and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Industrial Alloy Fabricators in Richmond. Before retirement, he served as Compliance Officer for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.

As noteworthy as this career was, there were two things that George McDearmon cherished more, his family and his Church. He never missed a ball game. He paused every afternoon to take a daily phone call from his daughter. His grandchildren universally call him hero, not because of some remarkable ability, but because of his endless availability. George McDearmon always had time to spend and laughter to share with his children and his grandchildren.

During that invaluable time he consistently imparted an inheritance of immeasurable worth: impeccable character fortified by unwavering convictions. He personally exemplified the truth of King Solomons Proverbs with his wise living. When he told you he would pray, you knew you were being prayed for and that those prayers we being heard in Heaven. When you sang hymns beside him in church or in the car, there was no doubt he knew personally the God he was singing about. If the hallmark trait of Christ is humility, George McDearmon was truly a Christ-like man.

For those he leaves behind-- his precious wife Doris McDearmon, his son and daughter in-law, George and Debra McDearmon, his daughter and son in-law, Marsha and Robert Skinner along with 22 grandchildren and great grandchildren--there is grief, but not without hope. There is sadness, but not without frequent smiles. There is sorrow, but it is dwarfed by mountains of memories. He ran well. He finished his race. Today, he is enjoying the prize. Well done, George Guy McDearmon Jr. Well done.

Funeral services for George, will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Chalcedon Presbyterian Church in Cumming, GA, with Pastor Tim Price officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
