Greta F. Newsome

Greta F. Newsome, age 91, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, April 9^th, 2024.

Greta was in the comfort of her own home with her daughter by her side.  Her artwork, flowers and family pictures surrounding her.

 From an early age Greta loved art, painting in oils, pastels, and acrylics.  She would create paintings for family members and friends.  Several of her creations line the hall and walls of her home.

 There was nothing more important to her than family.  Greta was one of seven children, unfortunately losing a sister at a young age.  She always found time to visit or call her remaining three sisters.  Watch out when these four got together, oh the stories!  Although later in life the four did not live particularly close to each other they still had their monthly “sisters meeting” which would ultimately include lunch, thrifting and whatever else came about.  Always parting with the promise to see each other again very soon.  As soon as she got home, she would most likely be found back on the phone chatting with one of them.  Greta also remained close to her brothers throughout the years, but her sisters were her closest confidants.

 At the family Christmas party or reunion everyone would insist she bring her amazing coconut cake, a favorite by all.  Those times were the most enjoyable to Greta as she mostly sat and discussed everything under the sun with her sisters, but it was also just being around family.  And someone was always making coffee.

 Greta is survived by her daughter Gena Mathis (Van), grandson Spencer Stark, granddaughter Sydney Stark, son Greg Newsome (Cindy) granddaughter Katie Wilson (Steven), great granddaughter Nova Wilson and granddaughter Faith Ciolko (David).

Greta was preceded in life by her husband, Theron Eugene (Gene) Newsome. Parents, Truman Cleo (Pawpaw) and Ada Pearl (Biggy) Flowers.   Siblings:  Judith Flowers, T.C. Flowers, Charles Flowers, Betty Land (Fred), Barbara Hembree (Kenneth) and Jill Nash (David).

In Memoriam to Greta, Grandy, Aunt and Mom.  She had a life well lived.
