Gwyndolyn McGowan

Gwyndolyn McNeely McGowan, age 89, of Atlanta, GA passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. McGowan was born January 18, 1926 in Mannsville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Carrie McNeely, her husband, Dr. John W. McGowan, her son, John W. McGowan Jr., a sister, Charlene Martinez and brother Randal McNeely.

Survivors include her sister, Nadine Bliss, daughter, Marilyn McGowan Pryor (Louis), grandchildren, Justin (Osha), Brandon (Dawn) and David (Kim) Roller and 4 great grandchildren, Lily, Tate, Anya and Hudson.

She graduated from high school in Cuba, Missouri where she was a majorette and captain of the girls'' basketball team. She attended the University of Louisville where she met her husband who was in medical school at the time. After a 2 year stent in Landstuhl, Germany, the family moved to Lexington, KY.

Mrs. McGowan attended the University of Kentucky and received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA). She was employed by the University of Kentucky as Graphic Design Artist for 22 years.

She was an avid foxhunter and a former member of the Kentucky State Foxhunter's Association; National Fox Hunters Association, Licking River Hounds, Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event volunteer, and set up a therapeutic riding program for her special needs students.

In 2004, Mrs. McGowan moved to Atlanta. She became a member of the Shakerag Hounds, High Museum of Art and Atlanta Symphony.

Mrs. McGowan will be buried at the Lexington, KY Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for friends and family at a future date
