Harvey Arthur Kaplan, Jr., age 86, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey A. Kaplan Sr, and Dorothy M. Kaplan and is survived by his soulmate and lovingwife of 62 years, Judith Kaplan; 6 children: Harvey Kaplan III, Charles Kaplan, Jeffrey Kaplan, Jennifer Gallace, Annette Divers and Kenneth Kaplan; and 12 grandchildren; Joseph Kaplan, Christopher Kaplan, Gabriel Kaplan, Marie Kaplan, Anna Kaplan, Michael Gallace, Amanda Gallace, Daniel Fitzgerald, Deborah Fitzgerald, Zachary Divers, Angela Kaplan and Monica Kaplan.
Harvey was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a member of St. Brendans Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.where he acted as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as a host for the Legion of Mary Rosary group. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Legionaries of Christ, a follower of the Marion Priests as well as.a Spiritual Advisor and avid Pro-Life Advocate, donating to various Catholic charities throughout his lifetime to support their causes. Harvey had converted to the Catholic religion in 1953, before he graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont.
With a Masters Degree in Social Service (MSS), and originally from Scarsdale in Westchester County, N.Y., Harvey worked for many years in New York as a Social Worker for the VA Hospital in Montrose, Catholic Charities, and lastly for the New York City School System where he worked as a Social Counselor for troubled teenagers in a Bronx school. In addition to his primary career, he also worked as a marriage counselor.
A Memorial Mass for Mr. Kaplan will be heldTuesday, February 20, 2018, at 12:00 p.m.at St. Brendans Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.
Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
