Hazel Hardin Holbrook, of Cumming, Georgia age 96, passed away peacefully at her home January 4, 2024. Hazel was born to Almon and Nancy Hardin and was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Wilborn Holbrook and is survived by her children, Jeff Holbrook, Gloria Buice and Rosa Warren and sister Jean McBrayer. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Leslie Buice, Adam and Meghan Buice, and Tim and Bridgett Wyatt all of Cumming. Hazel had a special love for her great grandchildren: Banks Buice, Reagan and Emmerson Buice and Ashton Wyatt all of Cumming. Hazel’s other surviving family members include a number of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Hazel was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church and a tent holder at Holbrook Campground where she attended summer revival for over fifty years. In addition to Church she loved gardening, cooking and going to the beach with her sisterswhere they would sit on the porch and reminisce about younger days for hours on end. For several years she enjoyed entering her canned relish in competition at the Cumming Fair which resulted in many 1st Place Ribbons.
One to never tell her age, Hazel was young at heart and loved being around young people. At Campmeeting her tent was always the place to congregate after the evening service whether it was for ice cream or popcorn tent #2A was the place to be. Hazel spent many hours working at Jack’s Restaurant and entertaining patrons with love for chat. She then worked many years at Wal-Mart as a greeter where she made friends who walked through her door. One of her favorite quotes was “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.” She was feisty, sassy and one never had to wonder what was on her mind. Hazel will be sorely missed by so many.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Hilda Igiehon and Sheila Carney for their excellent care and support during the last two years. Hazel grew to love these ladies like family.
