Helen Herring Ward Copeland

Helen Herring Ward Copeland, of Cumming GA., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the age of 70. She is survived by her husband Everett Ellis Copeland, Jr., stepson Stephen Copeland, children Emily (Robert) Price and Robert (Amelia) Ward, Jr. Helen loved her grandchildren Thomas and Helena Price, McKenna and Tanner (Leah) Copeland. Helen is survived by two sisters, brother-in-laws Micheal Ward and David Ward, many nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins.

Helen was born in Auburn, AL and loved her Auburn Tigers. She was a diehard football fan and you would often find her rooting for her favorite teams. Helen was an avid horse lover. Most weekends you would find her on a trail in the woods riding a trusty steed. She was ambitious and fiercely loved her family and friends; especially sister-in-laws Patti Herring and Cindy Herring, and beloved friends Cynthia Green, Sheri Martin Wingruber and Gail Corn. Helen loved music, singing and dancing. Her family could find her dancing and singing to her brother Tim’s live Bluegrass Band at any of his events. She always loved a good celebration and was looking forward to helping Tanner (Leah) Copeland plan their wedding. She was small but mighty, always making an impression on everyone she met. She was passionate about her spirituality. She was courageous, inspirational, loving, funny and a ball of fire that showed everyone what they can accomplish with determination and persistence. She lived her life to the fullest, despite her many hurdles. Helen worked over 13 years as a reservation supervisor for Eastern Airlines. She was a woman of respect and integrity allowing her to manage over 100 employees. After Eastern declared bankruptcy, Helen went to school and received her BA in Business Administration. Helen then went to work for her brother Timothy Herring, a criminal defense attorney. Helen often dealt with some rough characters but she was a bulldog that never backed down. Her clients respected her bluntness and honesty. She often heard back from some that she helped turn their lives around. She retired from this career only to become a licensed insurance writer for Eddie Flynt State Farm. Helen’s customers knew they could rely on her to make sure that all of their insurance needs were cared for, often forming strong bonds with her customers. She worked hard until she retired in 2022, from Carla Street State Farm. Helen taught those around her to be tough, speak their mind, work with integrity and always follow the heart.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Robert Lee Ward, Sr., her parents Hal (Virginia) Herring, brothers Timothy T. Herring and Dr. Tory Herring, niece Katherine Lamar Herring, stepdaughter Malinda Copeland, and best friend Melinda McEachern. Upon her wishes she was cremated at Ingram Funeral Home and brought back to her home with her husband Ellis and their puppy Hawk. Ellis cared for Helen until the end, they loved each other very much and were happily married for over 17 years. They loved to go on long drives and eat at their favorite restaurants. She will be immensely missed but her family is thankful for the time that they had with her. She requested that the family not have a funeral for her. The family will honor her by planning a Celebration of Life in February. Details to be announced by the family soon.
