Obituary for Henry Charles Bauer, Captain, U.S. Air Force Reserves, retired
Henry Charles Bauer, 81, passed away July 26, 2012. He was born March 6, 1931 in Brooklyn New York to Henry William Bauer and Margaret Donnelly Bauer. Hank graduated from Franklin K Lane High School in Brooklyn, NY. Following his graduation from St. John's University, he joined the Air Force. He took Cadet Training, received a 2nd Lt. commission and his wings in 1953 as a Navigator, Bombadier, and Radar Operator. As a Korean War veteran, he transferred to the Air Force Reserves in 1956 and retired from the Reserves at the age of 37 with the rank of Captain.
He married his first wife, Margaret Jean Salomone, in May 1953. They had five children together. After her death from cancer in 1979, he remarried to Nancy Schmidt Wehrmann in November 1980 That marriage ended in divorce in 1982. He married the former Elizabeth Ratcliffe Ensminger in February 1988.
After his service in the Air Force, he joined Western Electric Company in New York. He had various jobs in the company such as Labor Relations Specialist, Price Specialist, and Department Head in the Corporate Pricing Organization. In Atlanta, he was Department Head of the Installation Contracting Group. He, served on the committee for the breakup of AT&T. He was a Contract Negotiator for AT&T.
During retirement, Hank volunteered on the Help Desk at the Clark Howard Show. He discovered the AARP Tax Aide program which suited his talents beautifully. He served as a Local Coordinator in Alpharetta. He then became the District Coordinator for Alpharetta, Roswell, Dunwoody, and Sandy Springs. He recruited many friends and neighbors to help in this very worthwhile volunteer activity.
Hank was the first President of the North Farm Homeowners Association. He served on the Alpharetta Design Review Board and the Alpharetta Code Enforcement Board.
He leaves his loving wife, Elizabeth, his children: Henry R Bauer (Phyllis), Linda Wylie (David), Paul Bauer (Celeste), Laura Kellogg (Steven), David Bauer (Robin) step-children: Charles Ensminger (Debbie), Dwight Ensminger (Sally), Sally Atz (Chris), 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 31 at 11 am at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Cumming, GA with interment at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Hospice Foundation.
