Henry William Delling

Henry William Delling was born in Paterson, NJ on November 29, 1924 to Henry O. and Veronica Novak Delling, and lived in Belleville and Newark, NJ prior to moving to Miami in 1938. He was in hospice care at home for several months before his death on May 20, at Halcyon House hospice facility.
He graduated from Miami High School in 1941, and then served in the U.S. Army, 11th Armored Division European Theater under General Patton, from 1942, where he was in combat from the Battle of the Bulge, through the end of World War II 1945
Hank attended the university of Miami graduating in 1949 with a BSEE degree. While there he enjoyed his participation in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was employed by Philco Corporation in Philadelphia, PA as a junior engineer, later senior engineer and project engineer. He moved to Sunnyvale, CA, the heart of Silicon Valley, for the start of the aerospace programs. He was involved with the Discoverer program and later classified programs pertaining to aerospace. He was a program manager for the Control and Display System for the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston and, under his direction the control consoles often seen on television were developed and implemented. Also, under his direction a satellite communication system employing a 30-meter diameter antenna was designed, tested and installed in Kumsan, South Korea in the mid-70''s. Other work related projects took him to England and Hawaii. Smaller satellite communication terminals were developed for the US government in the late 60''s and early-to-mid 70''s. Philco was purchased by Ford Motor Company in 1962 and later changed its name to Phico-Ford, then Ford Aerospace and Communication Company. He retired at the end of 1989, and with his wife Georgann, moved to Roswell, GA.
He joined the Alpharetta Rotary in 1990 and was selected secretary. He had 100% attendance and was secretary every year until the effects of his stroke and some dementia became apparent. With Rotary he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was in charge of the Walking Tour Guides for the Roswell Historical Society. He also played sanctioned'' duplicate bridge at the Alpharetta Senior Center and was an ACBL Certified Director for the games. Hank was also a member of the Elks Club of Sunnyvale, CA.
A kind, considerate and gentle man., he is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Georgann Veeder Evans Delling, children Lee Delling and Carol Lynn Delling of Boise, ID, granddaughters Amy Sonderhouse of Katy, TX, Lindsay Sonderhouse, CO, and his sister Aline Delling Manzi of Millbrook, NY. He is also survived by stepchildren, Barbara E. Lake (Lloyd) of Woodstock, Karen E. Granade of Alpharetta, Charles Steven Evans of Homestead, FL, David J. Evans (Jeannine) and Laura E. Bailey, both of Davie, FL, five step-children, five step-grandchildren, five step-greatgrandchildren, five nieces and nephews, and six grand nieces and nephews. His step children considered him a father figure and will miss him terribly, as will all family members.

Byars Funeral Home in Cumming is in charge of arrangements. There will be a military funeral Monday, June 2, at 11:30 am at the National Cemetery in Canton. The family requests, in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Hank''s name to the charity of your choice.
