Herbert Atwood Ledbetter, Jr.

Herbert Atwood Ledbetter, Jr. passed away July 26, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born May 2, 1941. He lived most of his life in Ducktown Community in Forsyth County. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. 

Atwood was instrumental in starting girls softball in Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and coached for many years. He was Past Master at Ducktown Masonic Lodge #572. He retired from General Motors Service parts operation after 30 years and then continued his passion for gardening and raising cattle and chickens. Atwood  loved the Atlanta Braves, old Westerns and Georgia Bulldogs football “How ‘bout them dawgs!”  

Atwood was loved by everyone who met him. All his life, he never met a stranger. He could fill a room with his laughter and loved his family and friends with his whole heart. Atwood had a true and genuine soul. When he prayed, he talked to God the same way that he would chat with his friends. 

Atwood loved his family more than anything in the world and spent every day falling more and more in love with his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Lynda Ledbetter. Their love and marriage for 61 years were filled with adventure and joy. 

Atwood loved the land and found joy watching his garden grow. He loved hunting and fishing and never missed the chance to spend a day in the deer stand. He was humbled by the love that surrounded him and enjoyed life to the fullest. His spirit and kind soul has been passed onto his daughters, his son, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will live long after this day. 

Atwood is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Kathryn Ledbetter; Mother and Father-in-law, Fairy and Almon Hill, daughter, Nina Ledbetter Anglin (Norris), sisters Frances Sexton and Marsha Elzey (Hugh).  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lynda Hill Ledbetter, his son, Bert Ledbetter (Wendy), daughter Dana Ledbetter Watkins (Mark), grandchildren, Lukas Ledbetter Haley Watkins Rogers (Logan) Wesley Ledbetter, Wilson Anglin, Hannah Watkins, Hollyn Watkins, great grandchildren, Liam Ledbetter, Wesley Ledbetter Jr., and Henry Ledbetter. He is also survived by brothers, Doyle Ledbetter (Hellon), Lewis Ledbetter (Barbara), sister, Patsy Holbrook (Billy), and brother-in-law, Lamar Sexton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Prior to the service, visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Rev. Pete Martin, Rev. Donnie Nix and Johnny Purcell officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
