Herman Elias Stein, 91, of Duluth, GA, passed away on June 27, 2012, peacefully with his wife and 4 children by his side. The memorial service will be held on July 7, 2012, 12:00 PM, at Lake Berkeley Chapel, 4043 S. Berkeley Lake Rd, Berkeley Lake, GA. Guests are invited to attend a reception following the service. Mr. Stein will receive an honorary military service and he will be interned at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Mr. Stein, known affectionately as "Bubby," was born in Staten Island, NY on April 23, 1921. After graduating high school, he briefly attended NYU on a scholarship; but with the onset of WWII he joined the Army and later volunteered for the Ranger Special Forces unit. Bubby's acts of courage earned him the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Bubby was married to his beloved Lena for 69 years, who survives him along with their four children; Francine, Robby, Debbie, and Cindy; his 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his sister Helene, his many nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends. Bubby started his own business as a roofing and general contractor after returning from the war. He lived in NY until 1979, then relocated to Florida starting a new business there, and eventually retired to Duluth, GA.
