Herman Joyce Williams, aged 89, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2021 at his residence at Cameron Hall Assisted Living in Canton. He was born May 7, 1931 in Graham, Alabama, the son of the late Jesse Jefferson Williams and Mariah (Whitley) Williams and the seventh child in a family of ten.
Herman grew up on a farm where he assisted his father raising crops and dairy cows, supplying milk for the local school. He attended Ranburne High School, where he excelled in sports and academics. This was also where he met the love of his life, Maurice Lipham, whom he married in 1953.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Occupation Force in Japan for several years, returning home to attend college at Jacksonville State University where he graduated in 1959 with a B.S Degree in Business Administration.
His career at the American Red Cross brought the family to Atlanta and then to Tucker, where they became active members of their church and community. Herman served for 35 years as the Business Manager at the Red Cross, Atlanta Chapter, and happily retired in 1996.
Retirement took them to a new home in Cumming, where they found a home at the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He and Maurice loved serving there and made many enduring friendships.
Anyone who met Herman was struck by his kindness, wit, and sense of humor. Love was not just a word for him-he lived it out every day in his actions and words. He exemplified a Christian way of life that endeared him to everyone and provided a wonderful role model for his children and grandchildren.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, his parents, his son, Steven George Williams, and grandson, Christopher Paul Whorton. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Williams Whorton (Tim); daughter-in-law, Vicki Smith Williams; grandchildren, Andrew Marcus Whorton (Chelsea), Timothy Blake Whorton, Patricia Williams Krantz (Jake), Cary Jefferson Williams, and two great grandchildren, Jace Andrew Whorton and Kennedy Emerson Krantz.
