Ilse Ferrari was born on February 21, 1942, in Germany during the turbulent years of World War II. She never met her father, who was killed in the war, and was lovingly raised by her single mother in post-war Germany.
In her early twenties, Ilse met Werner Chamberlain, a German man serving in the U.S. Army. They married in Germany and, in 1964, moved to the United States. Together, they raised two children, Robert and Angela, while traveling the globe for Werner's military assignments.
Ilse was determined to be successful in her new home country. Despite not having a formal education, she learned English by watching reruns of I Love Lucy and became a U.S. citizen in 1980, embodying the American Dream. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to serve as a manager at Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta and Miami, Macy's in Atlanta, the day spa Noelle in Atlanta, and the CEO of Babor Cosmetics USA in Palm Beach, the American branch of Germany's oldest cosmetics company.
It was during the end of her career that Ilse met Paul Ferrari, who would become her second husband. Together, they retired to Hobe Sound Florida, enjoying a life filled with travel and community service.
Ilse and Paul dedicated countless hours to volunteering and giving back to those in need. After Paul’s passing, Ilse returned to the Atlanta area to be near her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Robert Chamberlain, his wife, Faith, and their children, Luke and Mimi; and her daughter, Angela Dushane, her husband, Tom, and their son, Tyler, Paul Ferrari's daughters, Lauren Ferrari, and Melissa Kashcagian. Ilse’s legacy is one of perseverance, generosity, and love. She will be remembered for her unwavering determination, her adventurous spirit, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
