Ingrid (Inky) Joan Canning

Ingrid (Inky) Joan Canning, 89, wife of the late John R. (Jack) Canning died August 14, 2020 at her residence at The Retreat at Canton in Canton, Georgia.

Ingrid Joan Erlebacher, daughter of Julius and Augusta Erlebacher was born in Bretten, Germany on October 28, 1930 and lived in Karlsruhe, Germany until she immigrated to the United States in 1939 to flee Nazi Germany.

Inky's family settled in Jersey City, NJ with little but through the love and support of family and hard work, she thrived in school and in life. It was in high school that she met her beloved John (Jack) Canning and the two formed an unbreakable bond; a true love affair. Inky and Jack were married for 63 years and raised 3 children, Susan, John and Janice. Family, friends and laughter were first and foremost in the Canning household.

Inky was an avid reader, game player, animal lover, loved to talk on the phone and never passed up an opportunity to gamble whether it be in a casino, Jai-alai, racetracks.....she loved it all. Most importantly, Inky and Jack enjoyed family time and often arranged wonderful vacations that would bring the entire clan together. Memories that are held so close to all our hearts and have provided countless laughs throughout the years.

Inky is survived by her daughter Susan (Wayne) Tidwell, son John (Marie) Canning, daughter Janice Owens, grandchildren Kelly (Ben) Wells, Brian Tidwell, Mara and Madison Canning, Lauren and Andrew Owens and great-grandchild Monroe Wells.

Inky is predeceased by her parents Julius and Augusta Erlebacher and her sister Ruth Erlebacher.

A memorial will be planned for the family at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Alzheimer's Associations.
