J. Jackson Reeve

Dr. J. Jackson Reeve, 87 of Cumming GA passed away December 19th, 2009 after a long and productive life. Jackson was born February, 1st 1922 in Wembo-Nyama, Belgium Congo, Africa to Methodist missionary parents, Rev. and Mrs. Thomas E. Reeve Sr. Upon returning to the United States in 1929, they lived in Calhoun GA. After graduating from Calhoun High School in 1939, Dr. Reeve attended Emory at Oxford and later matriculated to Emory University where he graduated in 1943. He then enlisted in the US Navy until 1946 where he was honorable discharged as an AETM, 2nd Class. Dr. Reeve later returned to Emory Universitys Dental School and graduated in 1958. He practiced orthodontics in Atlanta, GA and later in Cumming, GA until his retirement in 1990. During his career, Dr. Reeve developed and patented the Anterior Root Torquing Auxiliary and the Action Archwire both currently used in orthodontics today. He was honored by the Georgia Dental Association for his lifetime achievements. Jackson was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Cumming Church and served as a deacon, as well as several other committees. He was on the Board of Directors of the Sawnee Community Center, where he organized and directed the annual Cumming Triathlon in 1986, 1987 and 1988. He loved water sports and living on the lake. Dr. Reeve also served on the Board of Directors for the Lake Lanier Property Owners Association. Jackson was pre-deceased by his parents and brother Dr. Thomas E. Reeve Jr. of Carrolton, GA. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Jamesine Smith Reeve of High Springs, FL and their three children; Bonnie Dee Reeve Dudley and her husband Dan of Danielsville, GA, James J. Reeve Jr. and his wife Pat of Atlanta, GA and Dr. John Paul Reeve and his wife Kelly of Duluth, GA. Grandchildren are John Bryan Reeve and Jenifer Elaine Reeve Dawkins and husband Jason, and step grandson Jeffrey David Williams, Jr. and wife Crystal. Jackson is also survived by his brother Charles W. Reeve and his wife Mildred of Marietta, GA and sister in law Ruth of Carrolton, GA along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd at the First Baptist Church of Cumming with pastors Dr. Bob Jolly and Dr. Butch Franklin officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22nd at the Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Dr. J Jackson Reeve to the First Baptist Cumming Building Fund, 1597 Sawnee Dr. Cumming, GA 30040. Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory, Cumming, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
