Jacqueline “Jacquie” Gallagher, 91, of Cumming, GA, originally from Pittsburgh, PA passed away at home after a prolonged illness in the presence of family on Wednesday, July 19. Preceded in death by her parents, Haywood Jackson and Mary Jackson (Rugh). Also recently preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Robert Scott Gallagher. Also preceded in death by 3 siblings, Mary Jane Sarver, Bob Jackson, and Laura Stoughton. You could take the girl out of Pittsburgh but you couldn’t take the Pittsburgh out of the girl!
She and Bob moved to Florida in 1986 when they retired. They moved to Georgia in 2014, both times to be near Bonnie.
She is survived by her son, Rob Gallagher and his partner, Rebecca Harris of Kill Devil Hills, NC, daughter, Bonnie Ellinger, her husband, Greg, of Cumming, GA, granddaughter, Chelsea Nash (Gould), her husband, James, great grandson, Lucas of Huntsville, AL, and her brother, Bill Jackson, of Pawleys Island, SC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Jacquie loved to bake and was known for her cookies, cakes, and nut rolls. During her life she also liked telling jokes, laughing, playing cards and golf. She graduated from West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and worked there proudly until she retired at the age of 55. Jacquie and Bob were retired for 37 years and spent most of their time visiting their family members and helping everyone everywhere they went. She had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Corinth Chapter 229.
She will be interred alongside her loving husband at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
