James (Jim) Robert Lewis, Jr.,

James (Jim) Robert Lewis, Jr., age 87, transitioned peacefully on July 31, 2021 surrounded by the love of his wife and family. He had experienced a short period of failing health when God called him home.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irma; son Robert and wife Suzi: daughter Laura and husband Ray Robinson; grandchildren Michelle (Kyle) Kinsey and Jimmy (Alexa) Lewis; great-granddaughters Landers and Owens Kinsey; sister Shirley (Rick) Selman; many nieces and a nephew along with many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Bertha Lewis and daughter Sharon Smith Lewis.

Jim was born in Rocky Mount, NC and lived most of his life in Asheville, NC. He and Irma relocated to Cumming, GA in 2011 to be with family. He graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville and has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Western Carolina University and a postgraduate degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU School of Medicine.) Jim retired from the VA Medical Center and from the U.S. Army Reserve at the rank of Colonel. Jim was a member of Johns Creek Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Johns Creek Baptist Church. Private inurnment services, with military honors, will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions to be made to Johns Creek Baptist Church in memory of Jim.
