James “Avery” Tate

James “Avery” Tate passed away on June 10, 2023 at the age of 58 after a brave and inspiring battle with cancer. He was born on November 14, 1964 to Jimmy and Joyce Tate. Avery was one-half of the duo known as “them Tate boys” along with his brother David. Folks have told stories of their “mischief” and “meanness” in the Friendship community for years. Avery was a former police officer for the City of Cumming. He recently celebrated his 24th anniversary with Herc Rentals on June 1, 2023. Avery had a very strong work ethic and believed that you should give 100% at whatever you do. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.Avery was very proud of his daughter Ashton-he enjoyed watching her grow as a mother to his first grandchild James Russell and soon to be second grandchild Harrison Thomas. He was equally proud of his son Corporal Aaron Tate, USMC. He enjoyed all things aviation and loved flying his Hatz bi- plane.

Avery was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Cumming. He is preceded in death by his father Jimmy Tate, mother Joyce Tate, brothers Danny and David Tate, mother-in-law Patricia Williams, and father-in-law Thomas Williams. Survivors include his wife Keshia Tate, daughter and son-in-law Ashton (Jesse)Pilcher, son Aaron Tate, grandson James Russell Pilcher, his baby sister and sweet little rose Kelley Kandell and her husband Ryan Eckelberry, and sister Susan(Tony) Hanson; sister in-laws, Bonnie Tate, Melisa Tate, Dedra Denison; uncles and aunts Charles (Cheryl) Tate, Dean Mansell, Dale (Tom) Glasscock, and Kenneth (Martha) Tate; cousin and dedicated, loving caregiver Kimberly Henkle;along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Terry Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends Monday, June 12, 2023 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 10:00 am until service time at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040.
