James Blanding Haman, age 97, born in Vaiden, Mississippi in 1916, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at home in Rabun Gap, Georgia. . He is survived by three daughters, Sarah Haman of California, Carol Walker of Texas and Laura Haman of New Mexico. His wife, Margaret Ann Hill Haman, also passed away in January, 2013, after 65 years of happy marriage.
James completed his B.A. at DePauw University and Masters Degree at Duke. During the war, he was a photographer with a map making team over much of the Middle East, India and Mexico. After his military service he became a professor of English at Georgia Tech for 35 years before he retired from Atlanta and moved to North Georgia. He was a wonderful husband and father, an avid bridge player, an opera lover, a bread maker, gourmet cook and accomplished in needlepoint. In Rabun County, he was involved with Sharing and Caring and Friends of the Library for years.
A memorial service followed by a pot luck picnic will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at noon at Sylvan Lake in Sylvan Lake Falls Community in Rabun Gap, Georgia, Moses Rd at Sylvan Lake Rd.
Donations may be made to Sharing and Caring or the Friends of the Library in Clayton, Ga. in lieu of flowers. Internment for both will be scheduled at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, Va. later this fall.
