James Steven Baker, 57, of Cumming, GA was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. Jim was in Savannah, GA for his oldest daughter’s wedding, where he passed away suddenly after being struck by a fallen tree branch. He is survived by his beautiful wife Joanne, three children: Casey, Corrie, and Will, sister Susan, brother David (Laurie), several nieces and nephews, and two yappy dogs Zoey and Bella.
James was a Chicago native who grew up playing basketball in a small town, Highland, Indiana. He continued his love for basketball by playing at Purdue-Calumet University. He then went on to get his Masters of Chemistry from DePaul University. James had a successful career at Dow Chemical, where he worked for over 30 years.
He was a man of faith and loved his family more than anything. He was a fierce competitor who loved sports and never missed one of his children’s life events. He loved adventuring everywhere with the love of his life, Joanne. He was an avid runner, Chicago Bears fan, and loved cheering on the Dawgs with his kids. He was very involved at Northpoint Community Church, being an active member in small groups as well as leading multiple Starting Point groups.
A visitation will be held at Ingram funeral home on Sunday, December 18th from 2-7pm. A service will be held at Northpoint Community Church on Monday, December 19th at 10am.
