James Carlton Davis, age 69, passed away quietly on Monday, June 17, 2024 with his family by his side after a long battle of prostate cancer. He was a native of Kentwood, Louisiana and a resident of Cumming, Georgia.
Carlton was born on November 28,1954 to Devoyal and Mary Ellen Davis in Independence, LA. After Carlton graduated from Oak Forest High School where he played multiple sports, he studied Business at Louisiana Tech on a football scholarship. After graduating with a degree in Business, he started his first job at the Kaiser Aluminum Coke Plant as an operator until the plant closed. He kickstarted a 27-year career in Shell Oil Refinery in Convent as an operator and member of the Aerial Rescue/Hazmat Team. In 1976, Carlton met and later married Stephanie. Carlton and Stephanie had 2 daughters, Krystal and Jennifer. Because Carlton loved adventure, he spent his time white water rafting, zip lining, horseback riding, and traveling. In his spare time, he actively created beautiful landscapes. Carlton’s many accomplishments include member of Economic Development for St. James Parish, member and office of the Lutcher-Gramercy Jaycees, high school religion instructor for St. Michael’s Catholic Church, member of Lutcher High Quarterback Club, member of the Paulina/Belmont Fire Department, Commissioner for St James Parish on the South Louisiana Port Commission, and owner of a mold-remediation company post-Katrina.
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, Devoyal and Mary Ellen Davis, nephew Steven Wilson, niece Delani Wilson Sexton, and brother-n-law Archie Mixon.
He is survived by his twin daughters, Krystal (Raymond) and Jennifer (Kirk), his four grandchildren, Connor, Addison, Aria, and Bailee and his beloved companion, Sharon Petitt. Carlton is also survived by his brother J.Q. Davis (Priscilla), Devoyal Wayne (Skeet) Davis (Aleta), Brenda Maxine Davis Mixon, Debbie Davis Wilson (Ralph) and special friend, Dr. Elizabeth DeEtte Smythe. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration will be scheduled at a later date.
