James Hervey Sharp, III died at age 73, on January 6, 2022 quickly and unexpectedly of natural causes, after living a truly impactful life. Jim was born June 25, 1948 in Atlanta, GA, the son of James Hervey Sharp, II and Frances Irene Sharp. Jim loved his family deeply and is survived by wife of 42 years, Chris Sharp, their children Rachel Bullington (Jonathan), Erin Harris (Will), Johanna Hulsman (Adam), Jonathan Sharp (Lorraine), and grandchildren Joshua Bullington, Miriam Bullington, Brody Couch, Elliott Harris, Emerly Sharp, Judah Harris, Noelle Harris, and Finley Hulsman. He is also survived by his three sisters Sharon Busby, Carol Schwaber, and Cindy Cousino. He was preceded in death by his parents, one unborn child and 15 unborn grandchildren.
In the community, Jim will be most remembered as a man of faith who laid his life down to help women and their children find freedom from addiction and reconciliation with their families for 30 years through Abba House. God performed many miracles through him from the healing of incurable diseases such as AIDS and Hepatitis C to healing depression and suicidal ideation without medications to healing deep seated hatred from sexual, emotional and physical abuse. He collaborated across churches and organizations to help those in need. He was a graduate of Leadership Forsyth and a member of the Forsyth County Ministerial Association. Prior to being a minister, Jim was a Graduate Gemologist, who developed the first grading system for colored stones while living in California and owned Sharp & Sharp Jewelry in Macon, GA. In Rome, GA, he started and edited a weekly newspaper aimed at exposing corruption.
Though a quiet and serious man of few words, Jim had an unexpected and great sense of humor. He was an athlete and a fierce competitor, a researcher and a thinker, an utterer of a five dollar word when a ten cent one would suffice, a traveler and an avid adventurer- sailor, scuba diver, waterfall chaser, a snuggler of babies and an entertainer of toddlers, a health nut with a sweet tooth, a man who prayed, a visionary, a despiser of gossip, a debater, a devout conservative, a big fan of his kids and grandkids, and a musician with a James Taylor vibe.
Viewings will be held January 14, 5:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday January 15, 10:00am-12:00pm at Ingram Funeral Home (210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA 30040). A memorial service will be held at The Vine Community Church (4655 Bethelview Rd, Cumming, GA 30040), January 15 at 1:00pm.
