James “Jimmy” Merritt

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of James “Jimmy” Merritt, age 71, of Cumming, GA. He passed away August 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was a man who always had a joke to share and wisdom that was sought by many. He cherished every moment spent with family and friends and loved everyday of his life. 

Born in Cumming, GA, Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors and nature you could say he was the quintessential country boy. Jim was a hard-working man of many skills and talents who provided for his family of 6. He worked for 50 plus years in varying capacities from service in the army to law enforcement to facilities management to owning his own home improvement company. 

Mr. Merritt was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Rankin; brothers, David Merritt, Danny Merritt, and Scott Merritt. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Connie Perdue Merritt; daughters and son in-law, Mya & Philip Kelley, Rachel Merritt; sons and daughter in-law,Joshua & Dirlene Carr, Jason Merritt; sisters and brothers in-law, Deb & Ron Harder, Eva & Lewis Major; sister in-law, Lorrie Perdue; brother in-law and sister in-law, Bob & Susan Perdue; 12 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and beloved friends.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Tracey Goodman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040.
