James Leon Pruitt

Our world lost a great man.  James Leon Pruitt passed away at his home in Tignall, GA on April 12, 2023 at the age of 88.  Born on July 14, 1934, the middle child of the late Carlton Pruitt and Dovie (Elzey) Pruitt, Leon was married to his love, Hazel (Gilbert) Pruitt for 64 years until her death in 2017.  He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Pruitt and Lillie Mae Wilkins, his brother, Paul Pruitt and son in law, Fred Pack, Jr.

Leon was born and lived in Forsyth County until moving his family to Dawson County in 1970 and later retiring to farm in Wilkes County in 1993.  He was a member of Cumming Second Baptist Church and traveled back to go to his church as often as his health would allow.  Leon liked to fish and hunt and working on his farm, but mostly he believed in hard work and, even though life threw him a handicap at a young age, he never stopped and through perseverance, hard work and sheer stubbornness, built a good life for himself and his family.

Leon is survived by his brother, Lamar Pruitt, children- Judy Pack of Trinity, NC, Jane (Vaughn) Terrell of Tignall, Ga, Carl (Sarah) Pruitt of Dawsonville, GA and Christy Pruitt also of Dawsonville, GA.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Patti Leonard, Sandy Pendley, Jenny Cail, Melissa Lopez, Ben Pruitt, Erin Pruitt and Gilbert Pruitt along with 4 great grandchildren, Jordan, Mark, Samantha, Grayson and his canine companion, Raven.

We will gather at Ingrams Funeral Home in Cumming, GA for visitation on Saturday, April 15 2-8 and Sunday, April 16 2-7,   with funeral services in the funeral home chapel at 11 AM Monday, April 17 with interment at Sawnee View Gardens, where he will be buried next to his love.  Revs Jerry Orr and Stephen Davis will officiate.
