The Reverend Doctor James Richard (Dick) Gantt, of Cumming passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Dick was born September 11, 1933 in High Point, North Carolina to Margaret Ledbetter and Claude Miles Gantt, Sr. He was preceded in death by an older brother, C.M. (Bill) Gantt, Jr.
Following graduation from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina, Dick served as a Lutheran Pastor for the ELCA for over 50 years. Some notable highlights of Pastor Gantts career include receiving an honorary doctorate degree from Newberry College and being inducted into Lenoir-Rhynes Sports Hall of Fame. Dick also served on the Lutheran Theological Seminary Board of Trustees. He and Connie moved to Cumming to retire on their golden pond. They have been active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Dicks favorite activities included golf, gardening, traveling, and sharing the many activities and milestones of his six grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie; three daughters and their spouses, Celeste and Paul Bauer, Kellie and Rick Racine, Allison and Jay Hagan; six grandchildren, Ashlynne (Josh) Gartner, Conleigh and Gantt Bauer, John (Meg) and Terris Hagan and Rilee Racine; a sister, Doris Gantt Brown.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with entombment to follow at Sawnee View Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1125 Bettis-Tribble Gap Road, Cumming, Georgia 30040 or the ECLA Southeastern Synod Mission Development Fund.
