James W. McCracken


JAMES W. MC CRACKEN, 92, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on March 8th, 2011. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his two sons Keith and Jimmy Mc Cracken.

He was born on Tuesday March 12th, 1918 in Anderson, Georgia. He was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Dawsonville, Georgia. He was from a family of 11 (4 boys and 7 girls). Only one sister remains.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday March 11th, 2011 from the hours of 5-8pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 12th, 2011 at 11:00AM at the Trueway Baptist Church located in Suwanee, Georgia. Interment to follow at Sawnee View Gardens Cemetery. Rev Mark Biddy and Rev Dwayne Smith will be officiating.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara (McKinzie) McCracken of Cumming, Georgia; sons, Alan and his wife Melinda McCracken of Archdale, North Carolina, Nathan and his wife Melody McCracken of Kershaw, South Carolina, Clifford and his wife Janet McCracken of Dahlonega, Georgia, Charles and his wife Amy McCracken of Cumming, Georgia, Charles And his wife Amy Gravitt of Cumming, Georgia and Jamie and his wife Amanda McCracken of Dawsonville, Georgia; daughters, Jerri Ann McCracken of Archdale, North Carolina, Teresa and her husband Max Koonts of Lexington, North Carolina and Bridget and her husband Eddy Holbrook of Cumming, Georgia; 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He held a few occupations in his life. He was born onto a farm and became a sharecropper, served in the Navy during WWII, became a construction worker when he returned, then a policeman, Greyhound bus driver and at last he found his passion as a long distance truck driver, which he did until his retirement.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Crossroads Hospice for their unending care and all the 400 Hall Staff at Cumming Nursing Center for taking such great care of our Pop during his stay.
