Jane Kent Plaginos Mitchell

Jane Kent Plaginos Mitchell, 87, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011, following an extended illness. She attended Valdosta State College where she was a reporter on the Campus Canopy. Later she graduated from the Draughton School of Commerce in Atlanta, with additional study in Chicago. While employed for several years at the 63rd AFTD in Douglas, Georgia, she wrote the often controversial column PTs on Parade which appeared weekly in the Enterprise. In 1944, Lieut. Lake H. Harrison, the pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress, named the aircraft after her calling it the Dixie Jane. She was active in several social, civic and religious activities in her community throughout her life. In 1957, she wrote and published the novel, The Bitter Sting. She graduated from Atlanta Law School with an LLB and was admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1971, becoming the first female attorney in Forsyth County, Georgia. She taught Sunday School throughout most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Plaginos, and her son, Clay Plaginos. She is survived by her daughters, Leigh Britain of Cumming, Georgia, and Sandy Lyons Neder of Lafayette, Alabama, Granddaughter. Brandi Britain and Grandson, Cody Britain, both of Cumming. She is also survived by her sister Vickie Kent Black (Lamar) of Millen, Georgia, brothers, Dr. Robert M. Kent (Karen) of Memphis, and Thomas Kent, Florida, along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be at Ingram Funeral Home from 6:00 9:00, Thursday and Friday nights and 9:00 until the time of services on Saturday at 2:00 at Ingrams Chapel. Interment will be at Shady Grove Road Church with a light luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Memory of Jane Kent Plaginos Mitchell to the Older Adult Ministries at Cumming First United Methodist Church. Ingram Funeral Home Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
