Janice Ann Deblon, 77, of Forsyth Co, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28th, 2020. Her loving husband Gerald Jerry, and daughter Tracy were at her side.
She was born in Oberlin Ohio on January 5, 1943. She battled Alzheimers disease for many years, but never lost her smile and ability to laugh at a funny joke or comment. She grew up in Ohio and Oklahoma in a house with 3 brothers, Harry, Larry William Lee. Harry, her oldest brother lives in Long Beach California. Her younger brother Larry (predeceased) was from Lorain, Ohio and her youngest brother William Lee resides in Durango, Colorado.
Janice had a beautiful singing voice and after graduating High School left home to make her mark in the music world. She recorded a record in the early 1960s that was a cover of the Phil Spector tune called, Oh Yeah Maybe Baby, under her stage name of Janice Lynn. Her song was played on radio stations in the Cleveland area and made it to the Billboard top 100. She performed for a few years in the Washington DC area and then changed career paths. Jan wanted to travel and made it into the highly selective training program to be an Airline Stewardess with Eastern Airlines. At the time a flight attendants were required to wear white gloves, be tall, stunning and perfectly put together at all times.
She met her husband Jerry, in Ohio. He was charmed by her wit , beauty and caring heart. They married in Ohio where her daughter, Tracy was born. She worked as a Switch Board Operator for Rigid Tool Company, and as a Property Manager. She took a break from working to be a mom full time. She was homemaker, a gardener canning home grown veggies, a self-professed chauffeur, Girl Scout Cookie leader, Horse Show Mom and all around cheerleader yelling out Thats my baby! She also loved going fishing with her husband Jerry. They went on fishing trips to the beach and deep into the wilds of Canada braving bugs so big they almost carried her away.
In the early 1980s the music bug bit her again. It all started when her husband Jerry, was asked to play in a wedding band. He told her she was too good to sing with them so she started her own group. Her first band was called Paul Jan, they started out playing smaller venues in the Cleveland area. Then her group expanded to more musicians and was called, Sundance. They were well loved in the Cleveland area. As her circle of musician friends grew she was often asked for help booking gigs. That is how her next adventure, The Jan DeBlon Talent Agency was born. Her rooster of talent, rapidly grew and in a short time she was handling bookings for major talent including the great Chuck Berry! Her agencys stable of artists ranged from well-known musical groups, artists that made TV appearances, magicians, and more. She even booked talent for an early launch party of The Rock Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
She moved again with her family to the green acres of Northern New Jersey. The property they bought had been farmland complete with horses, goats cattle. When she first saw the animals, she broke out in song singing, Green Acres is the place for me, farm living is the life for me! She semi-retired from the music business and threw her passion for life into a new direction and became a certified Master Gardener. In New Jersey, she designed beautiful gardens in the rolling hills of Sussex County. They had a lot of friends and some great parties and cookouts. They renewed their wedding vows on their 25th Anniversary.
After eight years in the Garden State, they moved again this time to try out life as Southerners, in Forsyth County, Georgia. Their new home was a clean slate of red Georgia clay for her to work her wonders upon. Jan and Jerry chipped and dug away in the hard packed clay to create a new oasis of flowers, gardens and fishponds.
Soon after their daughter Tracy was married to Doug, Jan announced she was ready to be a Grandma. She said, If Im going to be old then I might as well be a Grandma! They had to wait a few years for this wish to be fulfilled. In the mean time they moved again briefly to Texas and then back to their home in Georgia. Jan and Jerry enjoyed their gardens, local music and travel. She traveled with Jerry all over the South East. Her favorite southern towns were Savannah and Charleston. When enjoying local musicians, no one was surprised when Jan would jump up on stage to join the band in a song or two. She loved to eat out and try new places. She could tell you all the best restaurants to try and where to find a perfect cup of coffee or margarita.
Jan was so excited to finally become a Grandmother! She was adamant that she didnt want to be called Grandma or Granny. She was far too hip for that so she decided that shed be a Grand Jan, instead. She loved her two Granddaughters so much. She would sing them silly songs she made up and would do anything to make them laugh. She traveled all over the US and even to Germany to spend time with her much beloved daughter Tracy, son-in-law, Doug and two granddaughters.
Jan was always the light of the room with her wit and occasional sarcasm. She would talk to anyone making new friends. She was kind hearted and would stop to help everyone, people, animals and dying plants from the garden center. She had a life well lived and will be missed. We ask you to help us celebrate Janice a few ways. First by planting some beautiful flowers in your yard. Our second request is to mix up a fantastic margarita to toast her life.
