Joel Jerome Farrer, Sr.

Joel Jerome Farrer, Sr., passed away a day after his 90th birthday, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, after an extended illness. He was a resident of Cumming, Georgia before retiring to Pflugerville, Texas to be with his children and grandchildren. Joel was the third child of Walter and Daisy Farrer of Louisville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his son, Joel Jerome Farrer, Jr. and brothers John Farrer, Bill Farrer and Henry Farrer. 

Joel is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Elois Darroch Farrer, of Pflugerville, Texas; son Mark and Angie Farrer of Pflugerville, Texas; daughter Sandra and George Littlejohn of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren Jacob Farrer, Anna Kate Littlejohn, Julie Littlejohn and Bryan Littlejohn; sister Mary and Norman Baker, Sr. of Cumming, Georgia, and brother Walter “Ike” and Jenel Farrer, Jr, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and numerous other relatives. 

One of six children, Joel was born and raised in Louisville, Georgia, where he learned to hunt and fish with his brothers and many cousins. He attended Louisville Academy. Joel worked in accounting his entire working career at Tyson Foods, ending in 2006 after more than 49 years of faithful service. He was a much beloved boss and friend. 

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia where he served as a deacon for several years starting in 1991. Joel served as Chairman of the Finance Committee when they paid their building note off early to welcome a new pastor. Joel later was a member of First Baptist Church in Round Rock, Texas. 

An avid University of Georgia Bulldog fan, Joel enjoyed watching his favorite college team play. He also enjoyed fishing, a passion he shared with his son Joel Jr. Joel loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind, humble and easygoing person. Joel had a kind word for everyone and was a friend to many. 

The family thanks Hospice Austin for the wonderful care he received from especially from Naomi, Nikki and Catrina. 

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Jude Hospital, a charity Joel respected and supported for many years. Or, choose a charity of your choice and donate in Joel’s name. Lastly, Joel’s family would love for you to remember him by paying a kindness toward someone in need. 

Visitation will be Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. A service will be held at First Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia on Friday, August 16, 2024 starting at 11am with burial to follow at Sawnee View Gardens. Dr. Robert Jolly and Dr. B.V. Franklin, Jr. will officiate.
