John A Tallant,65, passed away at Embracing Hospice in Cumming after a short battle with cancer. He graduated from Meigs Consolidated High School, Decatur, Tennessee where he was president of the senior class in 1969. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity. He began his career as a national sales manager for the catfish division at Gold Kist. Later he was sales manager for the Newnan and Talmo pork plants and Lithonia plant poultry manager at John Morrell, Memphis. He was sales manager and national manager for Conagra catfish division. In 1985 he started his own company, Georgia Meat Brokers, INC. in Atlanta and represented some of the best principals in the industry. At one time he sold products to A, Big Star, Cub Foods, Food Giant, Kroger, Winn Dixie and Super Value stores. The company was bought by Tri-Venture Marketing, INC. where he continued to work until his retirement as Senior Vice-President. He was based in Cincinnati. John was building his dream, a log cabin in East Tennessee during his illness, where he loved his garden and enjoyed his fruit trees and flowers. He was an avid motorcyclist, certified scuba diver and a Tanya Tucker fan. He often relived the days when the children learned to ski at Lake Hartwell and the time when his son Chad established Chad's Bar-B-Que in Cumming. He also spent time with his daughter, Jonna, enjoying the Georgia Bulldogs while she attended UGA; but his loyalty was to his University of Tennessee Vols and the Lady Vols. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Alpharetta. Survivors include his ex wife, Dianne Tallant of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Sheila Tallant of Pikeville, TN; daughter, Jonna Tallant of Knoxville, TN; mother, Polly Anderson of Decatur, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Trish Tallant of Smithville, TN, Alvin and Sandy Tallant of Kingston, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Gielda and Tom Reese of Decatur, TN; in laws, Russell and Hazel Roberts of Decatur, TN; 4 nieces and 3 nephews. A celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to noon and on Sunday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice Society or the Make A Wish Foundation in memory of John. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
