John Bestor

John Bestor - beloved husband to Chris, devoted father to Braden, Lauren, Ryan, & Megan, dear brother to Kurt, Jill, and Carrie, and sweet son of Rollie and Phyllis Bestor - passed away on Tuesday September18, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Blessed from an early age with incredible athletic prowess, John achieved success as a national-level swimmer and an all-state football quarterback. But most of his success was attained as a pole-vaulter and decathlete, and many of his athletic records as a high school and college champion went unsurpassed for years. John approached his life's avocation with the same determination as he did his athletics. After graduating from Brigham Young University, John became a police officer for Provo City. After three years of merited service, Bestor moved his family to Salem, Oregon where, for seven years, he worked as an insurance fraud investigator. Finally, John pursued a long-time dream of becoming an FBI agent. Upon graduation from the FBI Special Training in Quantico, Virginia, John received the prestigious Fidelity Bravery Integrity Award. Prior to his death, Special Agent Bestor worked in medical fraud, functioned as a community and press liaison for the Atlanta office of the FBI and, most notably, worked in the area of international terrorism. This last position took him and his family to oversea's postings in Kenya and Egypt. Upon his return to Atlanta, John received the coveted US Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service. Athletic and career successes aside, John's greatest achievement was attained with his wife of 29 years, Christine Braithwaite Bestor. Together they dreamed of and lived an idyllic life with four children who will now carry the legacy left by their father. Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 510 Brannon Road in Cumming, Georgia. Friends may call an hour earlier to pay condolences to Chris and the family. Interment will follow the services at Sawnee View Gardens.
