John Jude Burkert, of Haverstraw, New York passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family in Cumming, Georgia on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. John, better known as Jack, was born on October 1, 1958 in Suffern, NY to John Joseph Burkert and Claire Marie Anderson. Jack was retired from Lederle/Wyeth Laboratories in Pearl River, New York after 29 years of service, in which he was a member of the Hazmat Team, before moving down South to become a Career Firefighter for the City of Alpharetta in Alpharetta, Georgia. Jack had over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter, serving for Cosgriff Hose Co. #4 and Stony Point Fire Department #18, since 1976. He was also a Life Member of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters’ Association. Jack was a dedicated husband and father who enjoyed cooking, music and had an immense sense of pride for his country. Jack married the love of his life Linda and shared 34 years of wedded bliss; 39 years together.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Rose Burkert; son Thomas D. Nytko and his wife Kristin; daughter Danielle R. James and her husband Ronald; daughter Jaclyn C. Ding and her husband Thiago; daughter Rachel M. Burkert; and his sister Mary Jean Grau and her husband Freddy of Millsboro, Delaware. John had 4 grandchildren; Damian, Juliyana, Nevaeh and Roman and 9 grandpets, whom he adored. John will be laid to rest with his faithful dog Blanco.
Friends may call Sunday 10/22 and Monday 10/23 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming, Georgia. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10/24/2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Johns Creek, GA. Reception and Burial to follow in the City of Sugar Hill Cemetery.
