John Schrober, of Johns Creek, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 after a nearly two year-long battle with cancer. He was 73.
He was born on November 19, 1943 in Stamford, Connecticut to John Schrober and Julia Dvorsky Schrober. Family legend states he was born as the result of a particularly ruthless game of Monopoly with Julia's sister and brother-in-law, where she laughed so hard she went into labor.
John joined the Air Force in 1963 and received his discharge in 1965. He moved to St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. where he worked at a hotel with the goal of saving enough money to buy a boat and become a charter fisherman. Sadly he had too much fun on the island and ultimately had to come home to the mainland. He was hired at General Electric upon his return to work in the data center. It was there in 1974 he met Clare "Bunnie" Meyer and they would wed six months later. In 1978, his daughter Jennifer was born and the family was complete. In 1992 G.E. Capital moved the family to Johns Creek, Georgia where they reside to this day.
Upon retirement, John became an avid volunteer, spending his time helping Jennifer at her various nonprofit events and ultimately spending nearly 10 years volunteering at Emory Johns Creek hospital. His two days a week in Outpatient Surgery were his favorite, surrounded by the love and laughter of the nursing staff. Outside of volunteering, John loved fishing and organizing annual fishing trips with his best friends and spending time with his wife, daughter and son-in-law.
John is survived by his wife, Bunnie of Johns Creek; daughter Jennifer Cobb (Andy) of East Point; sister, Judy Pataky of Stamford, CT; Carol Connolly of Hampton, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews across the country. He was loved dearly by his family and friends, and will be missed for many years to come.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 731 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Lung Association, Georgia Chapter or Winship Cancer Institute.
