John De Haan of Cumming GA passed away October 20, 2014 at the age of 92. The son of Elizabeth and Harm De Haan of Kalamazoo, MI. He is survived by by wife of 70 years, Helen Marie DeWolff, children Cheryl Lynn Hayat, Nancy K. Bland, Denise De Haan and Mark De Haan.; grandchildren John Ali Hayat, Shameen Hayat Noto, and Stephan Mark De Haan, and four great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Garrett, and Burt DeHaan. He was born in Kalamazoo on October 9, 1922 and graduated from Central High School. He served in the MP Platoon 90th Infantry Division of the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He was awarded three bronze stars for the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a life long member of Trinity Reformed Church. He worked as a sales engineer for Kal-Die Casting Corp. and Du-Wel Manufacturing. John enjoyed fishing, travel, model ship building, the sun and sand of Lake Michigan, stain glass projects, carpentry and household painting. He took great pleasure in family time together. The service will be held at the historic sanctuary of the Roswell Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
