John was born on November 19, 1921 in Fremont, OH, and was the eldest child of Joseph and Hilda (Andres) Notheis. He passed away on September 18, 2013, due to congestive heart failure. He entered the U. S. Navy in 1942 and served as a Lt. JG in Norman, OK. He was the recipient of numerous medals and awards. While in the service he married, Mary Margaret Koleman; and upon receiving an honorable discharge returned to Fremont, OH. They moved to Atlanta, GA in 1959, retiring in Florida for several years; then to Blairsville, GA for a number of years; and moving to Cumming, GA in 2007. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Community in Cumming, GA. Through the years he served on various finance committees where he attended church, was President of the St. Pius Booster Club in Atlanta, and was former member of the Knights of Columbus. John loved to play golf and in later years worked with stained glass. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Mary Margaret (Koleman) Notheis; his children, Ann Notheis Brayley, Linda Notheis, Judy Notheis Wilson, Nancy Notheis Walker and John G. Notheis II. Also grandchildren (Matthew Brayley, Michelle Brayley Brinson, Chandler Notheis Pepper, Nicholas Joseph Notheis, Leandra King Bennett, Daniel King) and 9 great grandchildren; as well as a sister, Mary M. Whiting and brother, Thomas J. Notheis. John is preceded in death by his parents (Joseph and Hilda (Andres) Notheis, two brothers George and Jim, and two sons, James (1950) and Joseph (2008). His family and friends are thankful to have had him in their lives for 91years.
