John G. Sofikitis Beloved and Dedicated Family Man, Life-Long Educator John George Sofikitis, formerly of Brookfield, OH and Cumming, GA passed into the arms of our Lord on November 26, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at age 77. He was born September 21, 1934 and lived his childhood on the island of Naxos, Greece. At age 24, he chose to further his education in the United States of America, of which he was most patriotic and proud to be blessed with citizenship in 1966. He is preceded in death by his parents, Giorgios Ioannis Sofikitis and Andreani S. Adamopoulos, both of Greece; and in-law parents Panagiotis Ioannis Caravolias and Irene P. Caravolias both of Farrell, Pennsylvania and nephew Patrick Nudds of the UK. He is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years, Stamatia C. Sofikitis; daughter and son-in-law Irene Sofikitis and A.J. Williams of Lilburn; son and daughter in-law George John and Anna Sofikitis of Alpharetta and his adored granddaughter Stamatia (Stami) Williams attending Kennesaw State University; his beloved sisters Flora S. Rinaldi and son Carmine of New York, and Mary N. Sofikitis of Naxos and her daughter Lorraine of the UK. He is also survived by his step grandchildren Jeremy F. and Allyson N. Williams attending North Georgia College and State University and his beloved nephew Jim Stephanopoulos and family of Lilburn, GA. Gifted with an invaluable work ethic and passion for education, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 from Youngstown State University and subsequently a Master of Education degree at Westminster College in 1970. He began his 30 year career as a science instructor in the Fowler-Vienna School District in Vienna, OH in 1965 and became the high school Principal in 1968 before retiring in July of 1995. Throughout his life he was an active member of his church, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Farrell, PA and currently a member of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be conducted at Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church, 3074 Bethelview Rd. Cumming, GA on Thursday, December 1 at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1390 Dahlonega Hwy., Cumming, GA. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family has requested that contributions made in his honor of his life and spirit be forwarded to: John George Sofikitis Memorial Fund Sts.
