John was raised in Rolla, Missouri (or Missour'a' as he would say) where he was active in his church, a member of the Boy Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a champion track athlete and football player. He later received his Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Master's degree in Business from Missouri School of Mines, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and served in the Army ROTC. Following college, John served his country during the Vietnam War as a Captain of the US Army 168th Combat Engineers. John had a long, successful career with Southwestern Bell, AT and Lucent. He began in 1967 in their management training program and during his 33-year tenure, held several Director and Division Manager roles at the company. In retirement, John enjoyed golfing, traveling, serving as President of the community HOA, helping families with tax preparation at the local H Block, walking his dog Charlie, and most of all spending time with his wife, family, and friends. John had an affinity for historical facts and current events and loved to sit in his favorite chair with a good cup of coffee, reading the Wall Street Journal and working the crossword puzzle. John will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile and gentle spirit. He was a devoted husband to his true love Ellen and an unfailing source of love, strength and support for his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Ellen C.
