John Harvey Reeves, 85, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 5, 2022. In his last moments, he was with family as he joined our Father in Heaven. In death, he has now joined his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Sheffield Reeves.
John was a native of Atlanta, Georgia and graduated high school from Avondale Estates. He was a member of the Air National Guard and held degrees from Georgia State University as well as Valdosta State University. His career included being a Credit Finance Manager for Massee Ferguson Agricultural Company and he retired after a career at GoldKist Corporation as an Accountant.
John ushered alongside his wife for over 20 years combined at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church as well as Cumming First United Methodist Church. He also ushered at Cumming Playhouse for many years as well.
John was known as the “gentle giant” as everyone that met him couldn’t help but notice his height at 6 foot 4. John’s hobbies included reading history books, knowing every type and model of older cars, real estate and architecture, and he was serious about his love for chocolate cake. John had a very pleasing personality, never wanting to ask for help or bother anyone.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Sheffield Reeves and his parents, Harvey and Mabel Reeves of Atlanta, Georgia.
John is survived by his two children, son Robert (Tracy) Reeves of Anderson, SC and daughter Bethe (Jamie) Vincent of Cumming, GA. John had five grandchildren that he was very proud of: Jourdan Roberts (Jonathan), Barron Reeves, Austin Oliver (Julie), Alec Oliver and Zach Vincent. He is also survived by his sister Sally (Tom) McClendon of Fayetteville, GA.
The family will host a celebration of life at Cumming First United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 22nd, with a reception to follow.
