John Robert Sturgis, Jr., 68, passed away December 21, 2018 with his wife Bobbi at his side. He was born in Atlanta on September 7, 1950. John graduated from Sandy Springs HighSchool, class of 1968, and then briefly attended Mercer University in Macon in 1969, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He then earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, and a master's degree in English from the University of West Georgia. He worked many years at Spotswood Parker as an engineer. Upon retirement, he embarked upon a second career as an English professor at the University of West Georgia. He was an avid reader and writer who could turn a phrase better than anyone. John, an excellent guitarist, found true enjoyment playing his prized collection of beautiful guitars. He also loved watching his beloved bulldogs play UGA football. John treasured the time he shared with his wife and best friend, Bobbi, along with their pets throughout their 40 years together. He was loving and generous and had a wicked sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. His parents, John Robert Sturgis, Sr. and Ruth Mumford Sturgis predeceased him, as well as his nephew Brian Sturgis. In addition to hisloving wife Bobbi, John is survived by his brothers, Jeff Sturgis (Candy) and Jim Sturgis (Jan), sister Kathy Sturgis, niece Cara, nephew Tyler, and other dear family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and others who provided exceptional care and support during John's illness. Memorial gifts may be made in John's name to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter or to a charity of your choice. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
