John Thomas Harrison

Chief Petty Officer, John Thomas Harrison, U.S. Navy (Retired), 73, a native and longtime resident of Forsyth County, GA was born December 24, 1939 and passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 in his home in Cumming, GA. He retired from the Navy in 1977 with 20 years of service. He was an active member of Cumming Baptist Church and volunteered for the mission fund's many programs. He was self-employed in his hometown from 1977-1992. An avid golfer, he then managed Country Land Golf Course part-time and enjoyed the greens full-time earning six hole-in-one(s) over the years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he was best known for his loyalty and generosity. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary A. Harrison; daughter, Melody Fogle; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Scott Taylor; grandchildren, Scott and Amy Bennett; Hannah, Harrison, and Griffen Taylor; sister, Janelle Dowell; brother-in-laws, Charles, Kenneth, and Richard Lumpkin, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Cumming Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Crocker officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:30 pm and Monday from 9:00 am until time of service.
